Rugby is for everyone
You know when you discovered your 'found family'. And for many rugby players, one of their most influential and pure sources of that family feeling and reality is their rugby circle of comrades and supporters.
They're there for you when you're up and down. Quite literally! And it's hard to know someone better than a scrum buddy over a few muddy, hard-working rugby seasons. We also love it when supporters come to our out in the middle of nowhere games and to our local tournaments and events.
Usually to increase those numbers of supporters and fans and sponsors, we reach deep within the rugby community and ask and invite again.
But it is here and now and rugby is for everyone! Just a quick mention of our beloved sport with a customer service representative yesterday brought that home. She loved the action and has been watching it on TV. And, she still hadn't seen it live.
So when you reach out to folks to try the sport or savor a visual taste of a local rugby match, be intentional about reaching outside of the rugby circle. There are so many folks that have seen a bit of it in the last few years and would love a personal invite out to see their local rugby club.
Many youth clubs experiencing growth understand this and it seems more intuitive to reach out to all types of kids. But there are plenty of potential enthusiasts out there that haven't 'gone rugby' as a player but would love to as a fan and a supporter. Just look at the success of soccer in the US, with millions of fans who have never played cheering their lungs out like they're in the UK!
Coworkers, doctors, neighbors, any of those might be on your rugby team, but we bet all of them would love to see a rugby game!
